We love what we do — even when faced with the most difficult of challenges. This doesn’t drain our passion; it drives it. So, why do those same things sometimes have the opposite effect? Why do those things sometimes cause people to consider a career change? Are the people who love what they do simply lucky that they found their calling, or is it because they also work at loving their work? We’ve discovered three things that can not only help you love your work, but can also take your passion for it to a new level. Change your mindset. No matter how much we love what we do, there are days when even the most minor things seem to be a challenge. Instead of being consumed by negativity, people who love what they do will shift their focus to the action they need to take to turn the day around. However, challenges arise when enthusiasm for multiple tasks leads to little direction and few results. Getting your priorities straight will focus your passion and increase your productivity. This all begins with setting goals, and there’s no better time to start than right now. So, where do you begin? Here are five tips for not only setting your 2017 goals, but for achieving them. Put your goals in writing. The physical act of writing your goals makes them real and makes achieving them tangible. If your goals only exist in your mind or in a conversation over lunch, that’s likely where they will stay. To dig deeper on why writing down your goals increases the odds of them being achieved, check out this article. Write in active voice. Instead of writing your goals as if they will happen, write them as if they’re happening now, as if they are a fact rather than a hope. For example, “I will spend more time with my family” is not nearly as empowering as “I spend meaningful time with my family.” It’s a simple change in form, but a powerful one for your mindset. Be specific. When it comes to achieving your goals—and that’s what setting goals is all about—being specific is key. A vague goal such as “increase sales” leaves too little direction and motivation to achieve it.
